Nighty

Nighty was found on the street in February 2025, covered in mange with an enlarged abdomen. A local said she’d been dumped twenty-five days earlier. We think she was around five years old.

We thought she might be pregnant, but after thorough examinations and tests, the vet confirmed she had an enlarged spleen that was pushing on all her organs. She had a splenectomy, a gastropexy, and a blood transfusion. Many dogs in Egypt suffer with spleen enlargement due to blood parasites. The dogs are riddled with ticks, left untreated for months and years, and the blood parasites take a huge toll on their organs. All of this could have been prevented if only her owners cared. But this is too much to ask.

Nighty recovered from her operation and was also spayed, and she settled in to life on the farm. She’s very clever and learns quickly, and is so loving and sweet-natured. She absolutely loves attention.

In July 2025, we felt a lump in her belly, so she’s back with the vet for further tests.
